Deer Painting Meaning in Feng Shui (and Where to Hang It)
By the Poster Tailor Design Team | Updated 25 September 2026
What is the deer painting meaning in feng shui?
The deer is one of the best-loved lucky animals in Chinese art. Its meaning comes mostly from sound. In Mandarin, deer (鹿) and 禄 are both pronounced "lu". 禄 means an official's salary, rank and steady prosperity.
So a deer painting is a visual pun. Hanging one is traditionally read as a wish for promotion, a stable income and a good name in your career.
The deer also appears beside the God of Longevity in Chinese art, so it carries a second meaning of long life and good health. You can read more about the three star gods Fu, Lu and Shou in this Wikipedia overview of Fu Lu Shou.
Put simply, deer art meaning covers three blessings:
- Prosperity (禄): steady wealth and career growth.
- Longevity (寿): long life for the family.
- Gentleness: a calm, kind animal that suits a family home.
Why pair a deer with a money tree?
A deer and money tree painting joins two wishes in one picture. The deer brings 禄, steady career prosperity. The money tree, often shown in gold, traditionally stands for wealth that keeps growing, branch by branch.
Together they read as "prosperity that grows every year". That is why this pairing is popular for 入伙 in new Klang Valley condos and double-storey terrace houses, and as a gift for parents or newly promoted friends.
Our Golden Tree Deer (福鹿财树) series is built around this idea: golden deer beside golden trees, in warm tones that brighten a living room.
Where should you hang a golden deer painting?
A golden deer painting belongs in a bright, open space where the family and guests spend time. Here are the usual spots in Malaysian homes and offices:
| Space | Best wall | Traditional meaning | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room (condo or terrace house) | Sofa wall or wall facing the entrance | Prosperity welcomed into the home | 1:2 landscape, about 2/3 of the sofa width |
| Entrance foyer | Wall you see when you walk in | Good luck greeting the family | Deer facing into the house, not out |
| Study or home office | Side wall | Career growth and promotion | Keep a mountain painting behind the chair |
| Shoplot office or reception | Main reception wall | Steady business and good reputation | A large piece of about 4 x 8 ft on a big wall |
| Narrow wall or pillar | Round painting | Completeness and harmony | Centre about 150cm from the floor |
Two traditional placement tips matter most. First, the deer should look or walk into the home, not towards the main door. Second, avoid the bathroom wall and the space right above the stove.
Golden deer or other lucky animal art: which should you choose?
Deer are one of several popular lucky animal art themes. Each one carries a different traditional meaning, so choose by what you wish for:
- Deer (Golden Tree Deer): gentle prosperity and career growth. Best for family homes.
- Horses (Horse 马到成功): speed and quick success. Better for offices and sales teams than bedrooms.
- Koi (Nine Koi 九鱼聚福): abundance, because fish (鱼) sounds like surplus (余). Popular in restaurants and dining areas.
- Boats (Smooth Life 一帆风顺): smooth sailing for business and life changes.
If you want calm, steady blessings rather than speed, the deer is usually the softer and more home-friendly choice.
Real photos: what a golden deer 5D diamond crystal painting looks like
Our paintings are made as 5D diamond crystal paintings (5D 钻石水晶画). An 80°C heat-fusion process fuses crystal diamonds and gold crystals with the printed artwork into one piece. The surface looks like glass and has a glossy 5D relief. According to our website, Poster Tailor is the only brand in Malaysia offering 5D diamond crystal paintings. The stones are decorative crystal, not natural diamonds.
Gold subjects like deer and money trees suit this craft well, because the glossy surface makes the gold tones catch the light.
Three-panel piece: deer, tree and sailboat. This three-panel painting shows a golden deer, a golden tree, a golden sailboat and blue-green stones.
It brings several blessings into one set. The deer and tree carry the deer and money tree meaning of growing prosperity, and the sailboat adds the traditional wish for smooth sailing. A set like this suits a wide living room wall in a terrace house or a spacious condo.
Round: golden money tree. A single golden money tree stands on a black background, inside a gold round frame.
This round piece is a good partner for a deer painting. Hang the deer on the main wall and the round money tree on a narrow side wall or by the dining area. Roundness traditionally means completeness, a fitting match for the Round Art (富贵圆满) series.
See more real photos in our product gallery, or read how the 5D craft works.
